Master窶冱 degree with a major in a State-approved discipline from an accredited college; OR a Bachelor窶冱 degree with a major in a State-approved discipline from an accredited college with one (1) year clinical experience (minimum 1,820 hours); or an Associate窶冱 degree from an accredited college with 2 years窶 experience in behavioral health field; or full certification as an addictions counselor (CAC) by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board (PCACB).Employees should be capable of dealing with the possible frustrations involved in working with dually diagnosed clients. We require a person who is comfortable with self, is empathetic and able to deal responsibly with clients and fellow staff.Three (3) years窶 experience in dealing with recovering addicts, alcoholics, or a mental health population.Ability to write standard English clearly and correctly.Ability to express oneself clearly to both staff and clients in a professional manner.Current valid driver窶冱 license.
Description:ツCounselor — ($17.75/BA & $18.69/MA per hour) This position provides direct services to clients that may have a mental health diagnosis or a diagnosis of substance dependence. This position requires background in community corrections, mental health and or addictions treatment. The Counselor works under the supervision of the Director of the Program, and works with accepted standards of client services and applicable regulations. Work requires evaluative/analytical thinking. Contact is primarily with clients of the Community Corrections facility program. Contact is also made with staff of other agencies who are involved with the clients, such as parole officers, staff at residential facilities, and health care personnel. Occasional contact may be made with family members. The Counselor functions as part of a treatment team which includes the other counselors, the Clinical Director, and the Medical Director.

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following. Conducts client evaluation; arranges for other diagnostic evaluations as needed.Develops treatment plans with clients.Develops and maintains on-going client case records; records progress notes daily.Provides individual counseling, including principles of client-centered therapy and clinical case management.Provides group counseling, using principles of Interactional Group Psychotherapy including: here and now emphasis; ensuring a high level of involvement of all group members; ensuring a high level of interpersonal interaction among group members and refraining from establishing a leader-centered group; providing feedback about the group process and refraining from taking a 窶徼eacher窶 role about the group窶冱 content.Provides psycho educational groups on mental health, substance dependence and other areas (Communication Skills, Stress Management, etc.) as indicated on monthly schedule.Makes internal referrals to psychiatrist, Medical Department, HIV Educator, etc. as needed; communicate with residential staff as needed about clients窶 medications, general progress in residential programs.Assists clients in making and keeping outside appointments in areas of medical, housing, vocational, educational and other as needed.Acts as a liaison to outside agencies concerned with clients窶 cases.Develop aftercare plans in cooperation with clients; make referrals as needed to mental health facilities, substance abuse facilities, 12 step support groups, housing and vocational resources. Develops discharge summaries as needed for each client.Conducts sessions with family members as needed.Alternates counselor responsibilities when other counselors are unavailable.Performs other duties, tasks and services as assigned by the Program Director or supervisor on duty.
