PRO.A / Mobilize

Nearly 30 years ago, national recovery month began near the birth of the recovery movement. This movement has grown through collaborative efforts, many of which began over coffee, to the development of Recovery Community Organizationsツ(RCO’s). ツRCO’s, which offer persons in recovery a safe place to go socialize, access peer services and locateツresources are a cornerstone in mobilizing communities of recoveringツpeople, parents and communities across the nation. We do this because we understand and believe that we can and do recover.ツ

Recovery is:

  • A highly individualized process that requires abstinence from all mood altering substances, except those that are appropriately prescribed and taken. This process also includes the pursuit of spiritual, emotional, mental and physical well-being.
  • ツA process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potentialツ(SAMHSA).
  • Aツvoluntarily maintained lifestyle characterized by sobriety, personal health, and citizenshipツ(Betty Ford Consensus Panel definition of Recovery).
